What are Veneers and Why Do I Need Them?
Veneers are thin, custom-made porcelain shells that will cover the front of your teeth restoring its natural look. Patients choose veneers for numerous reasons including; closing caps between teeth, chipped (or broken) teeth, and teeth that are worn down.
What’s Involved in Getting Veneers?
On average it will take two appointments for the permanent veneer to be placed. During the first appointment we will prepare your tooth for the permanent veneer by cleaning it and removing a small amount of enamel. Next a mold will be taken of the tooth used for making the veneer. Lastly, a temporary veneer is placed. Once your permanent veneer arrives we will remove the temporary veneer and clean your tooth a final time. Your permanent veneer will be adhered to your tooth using an adhesive along with a small amount of cement. Using a specialized light, the veneer is cured, and your dentist will check the fit and polish the veneer.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
Dental veneers last, on average, between 7 and 15 years. Your veneers will be checked for signs of wear during routine dental exams. Veneers only need to be replaced if there are signs of chipping or cracking. The best way to care for veneers is to continue brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash as normal. Veneers can become stained and it is recommended to limit drinking coffee, tea, and red wine; along with tobacco products to help reduce staining.
